I received a new picture of Anne this week. Below is a triptych of Anne for the years 2012, 2014 and 2016 (l to r). I love watching the children grow!

Well, not really. As I’ve mentioned before, the letters I receive from the children take a while to get to me. This is a drawing from Josselyn and was received in my last letter from her — a “cool” drawing for a hot summer’s day!

Yes, that is the title of this post dated June 13! That’s because I just received a letter from Gabriela N dated January 8 of this year. The very fact that it took so long for me to receive this letter shows just how far removed Gabriela N is from the connected world most of us live in. I will accept Gabriela N’s greeting as a wish for the rest of 2016!

I received a letter from Gabriela J today. Because of the time it takes to get to me from Ecuador, it was actually written in March. I hope and pray that Gabriela J is well after the devastating earthquake. I know that Compassion has given some sad news regarding a few of the children and their families. Gabriela J ended her letter this way —
“Well I say goodbye with a huge hug. May God bless you and your family. Thank you for the letter. I hope you are in good health. May God always protect you.”
I also recently received an updated photo of Gabriela J. Hasn’t she grown?

As soon as I heard the breaking news last Sunday morning about the earthquake that shook Ecuador’s northwest Pacific coast, I searched the locations of my sponsored children in Ecuador and their proximity to the earthquake. At this point I believe that one of the girls (Josselyn) lives very close to the earthquake area. It is too early to know about her safety. The events of the world cause an additional level of concern when a sponsored child is involved. Please pray for Ecuador.

The common thread in the posts from my children is that they love me and that they (and also their families) pray for me. It is hard to comprehend that these children value me being their sponsor so much, but I am more and more convinced that they are truly thankful for the support I can give them. I am thankful to be able to support these precious children.
How I wish I could see each one of them and give them a hug!!!

“I prayed a lot to have a sponsor.” Those were the words included in the letter I recently received from Gabriela N. Having a sponsor means so much to these children. Knowing that someone far away cares about them through prayer, communication and financial support will help to create a more positive situation in their formative years. It is humbling to me to think that I helped to answer her prayers.
Will you be the answer to a child’s prayers?

Oh, Fredeline, I am so proud of you! I just received a letter from my first sponsored child in Haiti. Because of this, Fredeline will always hold a special place in my heart. In her letter she let me know that she participates in the Compassion project’s choir and that this choir has sung in several churches in Haiti. How I wish I could be there just to sit in one of those services and watch this sweet girl sing!

Being an artist myself, the artwork the children draw for me is very special. Josselyn recently sent me a drawing of a dog that covered one entire side of her letter. It warms my heart that she spent so much time to send me this special greeting!
